Gliffix and The Unity Carnival and Cutral Arts Project support St Lucia

On the back of our appeal to help Haiti and St Lucia through their hard times the Unity Carnival and Cultural Arts Project  decided to take up our offer to support St Lucia by designing an excellent St Lucia Hurricane Appeal t-shirt. The proceeds from selling the shirts will go towards helping the people of St Lucia who have been devestated by the Hurricane we blogged about a while back. The offer to help support these 'troubled' nations is still open so drop us an email at orders@gliffix.com with your ideas and we can work together to make a difference.

Here is the design.

How to start a clothing label in 4 easy steps

How to start a clothing label in 4 easy steps
Allot of people dream of owning and running their own clothing companies have no idea where to start.  Here are a few practical steps you can take to turn your dreams into reality.
1)
Most brands start with an idea or message you are passionate about. This could be a lifestyle, trend, musical culture or even a political movement. The theme you decide on will influence your designs and how your brand is perceived by the buying public. This is the hardest part of starting a clothing brand. Examples of themes are streetwear, urban, high end or alternative.
2)
Now that you have an idea of the type of clothing company you want to start you will need to create a brand identity which means you need a logo or an image that will make your brand stand out. The logo must reflect what your brand stands for and could be an abbreviation of your brand name, a mascot or even an animal/image that symbolizes the message behind your brand. Try to make you logo standout by using bold colours and or by including a slogan or tag line. Nike has ‘just do it’ and Adiddas has ‘impossible is nothing’ what will your tag line be?
3)
So you have your brand name and logo and you have idea of who your perfect customer would be. Now it’s time to decide on what products you want to design.  Most brands would love to start off by having a collection which has t-shirts, jeans jackets and accessories but this usually hard to do because lack of funds, knowhow and manufacturing contacts. Hence most brands start with an item everyone on earth owns – The T-Shirt. Why you ask? T- shirts are the easiest and quickest way to get your designs to the world.  They are affordable to buy in wholesale and can be printed with an assortment of finishes and colours that will ensure your designs attract attention. If you have an image or drawing that you would want on a shirt you can transfer it into photoshop or illustrator. Not to worry if you have no knowledge of these programmes simply send the image to Glfffix printing services where our in-house design team will digitise your design for printing.
4)
Most  t-shirts are screen printed and this involves creating a screen (mesh and frame) which has your design etched on it. With the use of screens and special inks the shirts are printed and dried in a special machine.  Viola you have your own branded t shirt. All you need now is some branded packaging, a few stickers and a free online shop from bigcartel to sell you new gear. So there you have it all you need to start your own brand, don’t forget we at Gliffix are more than willing to help you along the way so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at orders@gliffix.com

Haiti and St Lucia need our help.

As some of you may know the redevelopment of Haiti has once again been hampered by a Cholera outbreak which has been classified as a matter of National Security. The death toll from cholera across Haiti has risen to 644. At least 10,000 people suffering from cholera are in hospitals across the country.
As some of you may know the redevelopment of Haiti has once again been hampered by a Cholera outbreak which has been classified as a matter of National Security. The death toll from cholera across Haiti has risen to 644. At least 10,000 people suffering from cholera are in hospitals across the country.

We at Gliffix believe it is our duty to help the people of Haiti the only way we know best – By printing Haiti Relief T-shirts with your help. We are looking for charitable organizations with a strong link or presence in Haiti who would like to work with Gliffix on this project.  Our aim is to raise funds towards the Cholera relief effort through the sales of t-shirts that celebrate  the tenacity and courage of the people of Haiti.

Likewise St Lucia has been devastated by hurricane Tomas which left behind widespread destruction, flooding and claimed at least 14 lives. Many more people are missing a feared dead in the disaster. Anyone with ideas on how Gliffix can support the people of St Lucia should contact us ASAP.

If you would like to get involved or know an organization which would like to partner with us then please do not hesitate to contact us at: orders@gliffix.com
